Rollin' with the Homies

Yep-- We have a rolling baby. Well, rolling might be a little generous. You rolled over,  back to front, on purpose, and more than once, so we are officially putting it down in the books.

T-minus a week until you turn 6 months and you did it.  Nice work on squeaking in under the mark. This way when someone asks when did he start rolling, we can confidently reply 5 months.  Genius.

You may recall you had rolled over before this, but it wasn't intentional so it didn't count. To quote The Big Lebowski: "This isn't 'Nam, This is bowling. There are rules."

And later that night.....
Maddux out!
Your new skill makes you very sleepy.

As for the Post Title it is an homage to Coolio's "Rollin' with the Homies" from one of my favorite movies Clueless. I can recite every word of the movie, which contrary to what your dad believes, I find quite amazing and not the least bit annoying. I will share this gem of a movie with you when you are older. Same goes with the Big Lebowski-a favorite movie of your dad's.

Dance Party Saturday leads to a Lazy Sunday

This weekend we had an impromptu get together with your cousins.
 Let the dance party commence!

Audrey wanted to make sure you were behaving.
And Olivia wanted to watch you dance. (check out your hand moves)

Olivia giving you a bottle Before and After pictures. Can you see the difference?

You had so much fun this is what happened on Sunday.

5 Months Old (and Another 5 Inches of Snow)

Happy 5 months to my amazing little boy! You continue to amaze me in every way and I am so thankful for you. You are a happy, healthy, easy going baby who lights up our world each day.  You can make us laugh with just a look.

A lot happened in January/February for us: we continued to get winter weather, you tried your first food, the most boring Superbowl ever, and most importantly the arrival of your cousin Vera Rose.

Ok let's start with the weather. We are expected to get another 5 inches of snow with ice tomorrow, February 5th. I took a "mental health day" home from the office to hang out with you today (and to do some painting around the house!)  Something tells me we may be spending tomorrow together as well little buddy.  No complaints here- I LOVE spending days at home with you.

We picked sweet potatoes as your first food to try.  I don't like green beans and your dad hates peas so I didn't want to subject you to them right out of the gate. Squash didn't sound appetizing and mushy carrots are the worst, so I finally settled on sweet potatoes. There wasn't a big selection for what Gerber calls "assisted sitters".  Not that I am pushing you, but the babies who can sit up themselves have much better choices. I couldn't bring myself to try the sweet potatoes, but you seemed pretty content eating them so I will give myself two thumbs up on the final choice.      For more on your first food experience click here.

Your cousin Vera arrived just before you turned five months old.  She is so stinking cute!  I mean look at that face! I am a bit jealous of the headband on a baby situation and I am thinking you are probably jealous of her hair.

My math skills are a bit off and so I added some of the pictures between 4 and 5 months in your 4 month update. I guess I should have studied the dates a little better. That being said I don't have a ton of pictures to add to the 5 month update that you haven't already seen.
Ready for Superbowl Sunday
Some 5 month facts:
You love your jumper & entertainment center. Just when you finally figured out how to work all the toys on your entertainment saucer, we brought out the jumper with a whole new set of things to do.  I can't wait to watch you tackle this next round.
You squeal and giggle at us. You love exploring our faces with your hand, sometimes poking an eye or grabbing a lip.  You stick out your tongue at us.
You are sleeping through the night since you have Mr. Elephant to snuggle with you. We can put you in the crib with Scout the Dog or Glow Worm the Caterpillar to sing you to sleep. Sometimes you sing along until you fall asleep, but most times you put Mr. Elephant over your face and pass out.
You let me rock you to sleep occasionally which I love.  You are getting to be pretty big and I know that I won't have moments like this forever. You are a fantastic snuggler when you want to be. Even when I feed you sometimes you just look up with a big old smile on your face and wiggle around to snuggle in tighter.
You rolled over once, maybe twice, but I think these were flukes.  We are still waiting for you to roll over on purpose.

New thing is sticking out your tongue at me. I caught you right as you were about to do it.
We decided to finally paint the living room so clearly we had to dress you for the job in overalls. Say hello to this month's theme.  You seem to like this better than the lumberjack look from a month or so back.

Then again....maybe not.

I cannot believe you are five months old.  It seems like yesterday we brought you home for the first time.

Happy 5 months to my little chunky monkey.

Sweet Potato Pie

You tried your first food this week and (not shockingly) you loved it. Sweet potatoes were a success, keeping you clean- not so much.  You like to take bites then look around the room to check out your surroundings while food drips from your chin. In an attempt to keep you presentable before we headed out the door I draped you in a big bib and blanket. You still managed to have it on your shoulder, back, sides, and pants when we pulled you out of the bumbo.

C'mon Mom...no photos while I am eating.

Yeah like this is going to stop me from getting dirty. And that blanket around my waist isn't going to work either.

Yum.

You Aren't the Only Cute Baby In Town

We went to visit your new cousin Vera this weekend! She was born January 27th.  You love her now, but let's see how you do when she is taking your toys in two years.  I think it is great you have a cousin so close in age and we are excited to see you kids grow up together.

She is 6 days old and you are a day from being 5 months old in the pictures.

Not surprisingly you hammed it up for every picture we took.
 Cousin Love

 Aunt Alyssa
You are just a bit bigger than her.
Look at those baby blues.
